It Becomes Our Bible

When people say something like “it’s our Bible” when speaking about some authoritative source of information, they’re acknowledging that whatever object they’re talking about has great authority and trustworthiness.  In fact, in the technical field of IT there is a whole series of books with the name Bible. For example “The Linux Bible” or “The JavaScript Bible”. Again, these books are attempting to assert their trustworthiness and comprehensiveness in the areas they address.  So there is a cultural acknowledgment of the Bible’s authority, but no corresponding submission to the Bible’s authority!
